What a great push forward this will be for the Global Warming effort that is now gaining strong momentum. Al Gore has won a 2007 Noble Peace Prize for his film The Inconvenient Truth.
Ole Danbolt Mjoes, chairman of the prize committee, said the award should not be seen as singling out the administration of President George W. Bush for criticism.
“A peace prize is never a criticism of anything. A peace prize is a positive message and support to all those champions of peace in the world.”
Just another major reason why people should be thinking about where they are putting there investment dollars(Into polluters or GreenTech?), and how those dollars are effecting the world.

Today Environmental Power Corporation(AMEX:EPG) announced that they will begin deliveries of Renewable Natural Gas to another great green company, Pacific Gas & Electric(NYSE:PCG) a California utility leading the way in green power choices(And have a pretty nice stock chart as well!)
I will be writing a post dedicate to Renewable Natural Gas in the coming weeks, to uncover the details on this less publicized Green technology as part of a series on the many different emerging Green fuels.
Briefly, Renewable Natural Gas is formed from Biomass, then upgraded to the quality of regular Natural Gas to allow for distribution through established Natural Gas channels. Renewable Natural Gas is also known as Sustainable Natural Gas or SNG.

Meet Christiana Wyly, a 25yr old American who was recently profiled by Kiplinger magazine in an article titled “Green Investing is the Next Big Thing”.
This article is a great insight into the new attitudes that a new generation has about investing in green technologies and alternative energies. It seems that many people now in there 20’s and 30’s have decided that they want to invest in companies that are having a positive impact on the world’s climate(Think Solar Power) rather than a negative one(Think Big Oil).
An important quote for any serious green investor:“Venture capitalists and other large investors who are pouring money into green enterprises aren’t doing it for charitable purposes, Peck says. “They have no intention of accepting inferior returns.”
It is very encouraging to see that attitudes are changing and people like Christiana are getting the story out, way to go green!

A somewhat stark comment from Australian scientist Tim Flannery on the state of the worlds climate, adding “What the report establishes is that the amount of greenhouse gas in the atmosphere is already above the threshold that can potentially cause dangerous climate change,”
Tim is talking about the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report that is still in draft form and has not yet been released, making all of Mr. Flannery’s comments his own speculation. Three previous reports released this year by the IPCC have provided Mr. Flannery the basis for his statements.
I consider this a fairly large development, the fact that someone is coming out and saying that we are way farther ahead and in trouble over climate change than we previously thought. I could take just one report to really shock people and cause some real panic.
I don’t think we are near a panic stage at all yet on climate change, and hopefully we don’t have to enter a panic stage to get the majority of businesses and individuals to get behind the Green movement.

Now that just over 1 week has passed since our Premier Gordon Campbell announced major changes to the way our great green province runs day-to-day operations. This has given me a chance to take a good look at the mailer “Setting the Course for a Greener Future” part of an ambitious plan to make British Columbia the greenest place on the planet it seems. I say let’s go for it!
Highlights:
-”Legislation will be introduced next spring to make B.C. the first province to legally require hard caps on greenhouse gas emissions” This is big news people, there are going to be a lot of people who are watching us to see how this works out, a massive amount of green opportunities will be available to companies that are well situated many of which I will profile right here on this blog
-”Government travel will be required to be carbon neutral starting this year and for every tonne of greenhouse gases connected to official government travel, the province will invest $25 in a new B.C. Carbon Trust.” I’m not clear of how the government plans to neutralize their carbon impact(maybe buy credits here) but it sure shows how serious this province is about greening BC
-”Legislation will require the government to establish legally binding emissions reduction targets for 2012 and 2016″ We all know targets set for when this current government knows they will no longer be in power are a little stretched, but I think they are trying to set a precedent here
-”legislation this spring requiring half of all new power needs to be offset through conservation by 2020, and all new electricity produced to have net zero greenhouse gas emissions” Wow we are getting heavy into legislation and fast! Not only is our provincial government talking about doing something, they are doing many things!
-No coal-fired electricity projects will be permitted unless the emissions can be trapped” This is really a no-brainer and should show others how to approach new coal-burning plants
And last but certainly not least-
” Reduce greenhouse-gas emissions 33 per cent below current levels by 2020″
With all this legislation coming in very quickly to help keep BC green there will be a few big winners, some no doubt will be from right here in BC, and of course the biggest winner of all, the environment.
Stay tuned for my profiles of companies that may be able to benefit from this new ambitious goals and laws coming in 2008!

From one of my favorite magazines(Which sadly delivered their last issue this month, great work guys!) Business 2.0 writer Steve Hargreaves makes us aware of the probable boom in employment relating to the explosive growth now happening in everything green.
“We’re not going to import biofuel from Saudi Arabia,” Dan Kammen, a professor in the Energy and Resources Group at the University of California Berkeley.
I hope to see local universities and colleges offering courses related to green technologies and alternative energies as a confirmation that green companies are really making a good go of it.

The world’s largest wind farm has been approved for construction off the coast of Kent, England. This is amazing news for the wind power industry with the $4 billion USD price tag showing that large scale “Green power” projects are starting to approach the investment levels of some mid-sized projects in the oil industry.
The English are hoping that the world’s largest wind farm will power 25% of London’s homes by 2010. Let’s hope this project gets through any additional hurdles on it’s way to being built.
The Guardian does a good job covering the story from a UK prospective.
