World’s largest wind farm to be build off coast of England

The world’s largest wind farm has been approved for construction off the coast of Kent, England. This is amazing news for the wind power industry with the $4 billion USD price tag showing that large scale “Green power” projects are starting to approach the investment levels of some mid-sized projects in the oil industry.

The English are hoping that the world’s largest wind farm will power 25% of London’s homes by 2010. Let’s hope this project gets through any additional hurdles on it’s way to being built.

The Guardian does a good job covering the story from a UK prospective.

I think that wind farms get a bad rap, but why not harness the natural energy of our famous British weather? Off shore wind farms seem to be an ideal compromise, because they’re not in anyone’s backyard and they will be in a better, more open location. It looks like a good opportunity if you are considering an “ethical” investment, but some people could be wary of investing in Eon and Shell, from an environmental point of view.

I wonder how many wind farms it would take to forever alter (slow down) the global jet stream through factors like aquired drag of a uniform body relative to a fixed platform (the earth).

WHOA. I sense another story developing at realworldnumbers.blogspot.com ;)
